Continuing Resolutions Update

In the early morning hours I finished my first book of 2010, New York, a Novel by Edward Rutherfurd.  It was a Christmas gift from my brother.  I liked the structure of the book, tracing the history of the city from its early Dutch roots through 2001 through a series of fictional but representative families.  It was interesting to learn about the early years because I have traced my own family tree back to one of the early New Amsterdam Dutch families, the Van Hoenkoven's

I seem to be doing well with my other resolutions, too.  I am working on a lovely lavender prayer shawl and I have been preparing very healthy meals.  I count those activities as creative, so I have met expectations on all four of my January resolutions. 

Onward and upward! 

2010 - HAPPY NEW YEAR

This is the first day of a new year, and it would seem appropriate to make resolutions.  Past experience indicates that year-long goals get lost along the way, so I am going to try something new.

Instead of year-long resolutions, I am going to make an effort to make goals each month.  It may be easier to manage things in smaller bits.

So, here goes...For the month of January 2010, I resolve:

1.  To post messages here at least once a week, and more often if anything of interest comes to light. 

2.  To crochet a prayer shawl for my church to take to a member in need.

3.  To prepare and serve healthier meals.  (Sugar and fat are doing none of us any good.)

4.  To work on something creative each day.  

 

Well, that does it for today.  I promise to do my best. 

 

 

 

It is a sad day for Pakistan, the world and most of all, for women.

Benazir Bhutto, a brave and beautiful woman whom I will always think of as both intellegent and serene, was killed today by an assassin who shot her twice and then blew himself up in an act of supreme cowardice.

Perhaps even more cowardly, the women of  Pakistan are nowhere to be seen in the video tapes being shown on the television news.  We are told that country is reeling from grief and rioting in the streets, but not one woman is visable in the crowds.

Muslim women were dancing in the streets and uttering bird-like trills of joy upon hearing of the attacks on the United States in 2001.  Now, a woman of great dignity is dead.  She was the only Muslim woman  to stand up for the women of her country and try to reverese the trend to seize power by means of terror and subjugate the masses, most of all women.  Where are the women of Pakistan tonight?  Do they love death and distruction more than they desire peace? How many of their children will die in the blood-thirst of radical Islam before they stand up and protest?

Will the sacrifice of one good women be disregarded by those who have the most to gain by her loss?  Where are the women?
