AWAKENING

Morning began to stir, and so did I,
when night receded like the dark silk
of the coverlet slipping from my shoulder,
exposing tender flesh to your gaze.
I felt you, before my eyes opened,
reached for you, before I heard you speak,
hungered for you, before I remembered
the passion which burned at midnight.
